A staggered projection scheme for viscoelastic flows

چکیده
We develop a numerical scheme for the flow of viscoelastic fluids, including OldroydB and FENE-CR constitutive models. The space discretization is staggered, using either Marker-And-Cell (MAC) structured nonuniform grids, or Rannacher Turek (RT) nonconforming low-order finite element approximation general quandrangular hexahedral meshes. time uses fractional-step algorithm where solution Navier-Stokes equations first obtained by projection method then transport-reaction equation conformation tensor solved volume scheme. In order to obtain consistency, divergence elastic part stress in momentum balance derived weak form MAC For stability accuracy purposes, split into pure convection steps, with change variable log-conformation tensor, reaction step, which consists solving one ODE per cell via an Euler local sub-cycling. Numerical computations lid-driven cavity at Weissenberg numbers above around confined cylinder confirm efficiency

متن کاملStabilisation Techniques for Viscoelastic Flows
In a comparative study, three di erent procedures of stabilisation techniques are considered for incompressible viscoelastic ow. The standard benchmark of ow past a sphere falling in a cylindrical vessel is employed to test these stabilisation techniques. First, discontinuity capturing (for stress) has been employed to investigate stabilisation properties. Then, the Zienkiewicz Zhu (ZPR-Q) quad...
متن کاملA Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).
This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...
متن کاملStaggered Grid Rd Scheme for Lagrangian Hydrodynamics
Abstract. This paper is focused on the Residual Distribution (RD) interpretation of the Do4 brev et al. scheme [Dobrev et al., SISC, 2012] for the numerical solution of the Euler equations 5 in Lagrangian form. The first ingredient of the original scheme is the staggered grid formulation 6 which uses continuous node-based finite element approximations for the kinematic variables and cell7 cente...
متن کاملA projection approach for multiphase flows
An Eulerian projection approach for incompressible variable-density two-phase flows is presented. The Navier-Stokes equations governing these flows are reformulated to take the form of the corresponding equations for the lighter phase with a constant density, which can be efficiently solved using standard numerical methods. The effect of the additional mass in the heavier phase is accounted for...
